Violence at Howe Community Park Injures Four Victims Wounded in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Law enforcement in Sacramento are working a shooting that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Park at the time Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were breaking up an unlawful assembly of several hundred people.

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially got calls about Howe Park shortly before half past six in the evening after obtaining information of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Shortly after, a second call came in about a reported physical confrontation unfolding inside the park.

A law enforcement helicopter scanned the area from the air but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Regardless, deputies found that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park without authorization.

The Dispersal and Shooting

Deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by setting up around the park's perimeter and announcing over their public address systems commanding the assembled crowd to leave immediately. Around 15 minutes were given for the gathering to break up.

As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots cut through the air. The shots caused mass panic. Officers wasted no time in finding those who had been shot.

Four Gunshot Victims

Ultimately, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. Those injured — comprising three men and one woman all reportedly in their mid to late twenties — were brought to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Medical teams stated that two were treated for serious injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one victim's wounds were minor. As of last report, each of the four victims was stable.

Metro Fire Sacramento assisted at the location and aided in treating those with gunshot wounds before they were taken to the hospital.

Crime Scene Evidence

The bulk of the shooting was confirmed to have happened on Cottage Way alongside the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel found more spent casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Ballistic damage were identified in the metal fencing alongside the nearby Home Depot. This evidence showed that at least one shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot store. That Home Depot location was secured under a brief lockdown as a precaution. CSI units alongside detectives stayed at the location for hours.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Intelligence received over scanner radio traffic showed that a suspect Kia was pulled over in nearby Solano County. Four detainees were taken into custody. Sheriff's units were heading to pick up the four detainees to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Video evidence showed that there were two gunmen.
